Redownloads

Understand when Apple counts someone downloading an app again.

In brief

A redownload is a manual download by someone who previously downloaded the app. Auto-updates, restores, and automatic downloads onto other devices are excluded.

The platform definition

Apple includes redownloads in Total Downloads and therefore in its standard conversion-rate numerator.

The common misread

A campaign can appear to convert well while attracting returning users rather than entirely new customers.

The decision it can support

Break out first-time downloads and redownloads when diagnosing acquisition or interpreting a campaign.

Read the number with territory, device, source, product version, and enough time context. A metric can describe an outcome without identifying its cause.

Primary sources

Rules and interfaces move. Recheck these sources before submission-sensitive work.
