Android-aware companion
Google Play is not an Apple translation.
Carry the product truth across platforms, then respect the fields, policies, audiences, and experiments that make Play distinct.
Start with the actual fields
Google Play currently defines a 30-character app name, an 80-character short description, and a 4,000-character full description. The limits are simple; writing accurate, differentiated copy inside them is not. Treat Play Console as the submission-time source of truth.
Build an asset system
Use Play Console’s asset library to reuse approved graphics without turning the listing into a pile of undifferentiated variants. Keep editable sources, ownership, locale, campaign, safe zones, and expiration notes alongside each asset. Check the current preview because placement and cropping can vary by device and surface.
Personalize only when the audience differs
Google supports up to 50 custom store listings. Eligible targeting can include country, a unique listing URL, Google Ads campaigns, search keywords, or user state. Give each listing one audience, one promise, and one measurement plan. Fifty slots are capacity, not a content goal.
Run bounded experiments
Store listing experiments support one default graphics experiment or up to five localized experiments at a time, with no more than two variants per experiment. Reporting can cover first-time installers and retained installers; preregistration experiments use their own measures. Experiments automatically stop after six months.
Write the hypothesis and stopping rule first. Seasonality, acquisition mix, app releases, and campaign changes can all complicate interpretation. A result that does not reach useful confidence is not permission to tell the more exciting story.
Keep policy in the loop
- Do not use rankings, awards, pricing, or promotional claims that violate metadata policy.
- Make every screenshot and video representative of the actual experience.
- Keep store copy distinct from paid-ad copy; they operate under different constraints.
- Read conversion with activation, retention, refunds, and reviews.
