The App Store Connect growth loop
Use custom pages, tags, analytics, nominations, and benchmarks as one evidence-aware operating rhythm.
Think in loops, not fields
App Store Connect now contains several growth surfaces: the default product page, custom product pages, product page optimization, app tags, analytics, benchmarks, review summaries, and featuring nominations. They do not form an automatic strategy. Give each one a decision to support, then carry what you learn back into product, positioning, and acquisition.
Segment the promise with custom product pages
Apple supports up to 70 custom product pages for an app. Each can spotlight different screenshots, promotional text, and app previews, and can use a unique URL. Apple also supports keyword assignment for relevant custom pages. On iOS 18 and later, a page can include a deep link that opens the app at the experience promised by the page.
A custom page should exist because a meaningful audience has a different job, not because the quota exists. Keep the product name and core truth coherent. Pair each page with a declared audience, traffic source, intended landing experience, and success measure.
Separate optimization from personalization
Product page optimization tests treatments against the default product page. Custom product pages tailor the page to a segment or campaign. These are different questions. Apple’s testing eligibility and asset rules have limitations, including what can be tested and how treatments receive traffic. Read the current product page optimization documentation before designing a test.
Treat app tags as taxonomy, not copy
App tags can help people understand what an app does and can affect where it is discovered. Apple’s current rollout is limited, including availability in the United States. Review suggested tags for accuracy; never choose an adjacent concept merely because it has attractive demand. Taxonomy is useful only when it sets the right expectation.
Use the evidence Apple already provides
App Analytics can connect discovery, product-page behavior, downloads, usage, and proceeds without turning a single metric into a verdict. Cohorts help separate behavior by acquisition date or other dimensions. Peer group benchmarks add category context, but a benchmark is not a target if your product, business model, or audience differs.
Review summaries can compress themes from customer reviews. Use the summary as a lead, then read representative reviews before making a product decision. Automated summaries can omit context and should never replace support triage.
Nominate work worth featuring
Featuring nominations let you tell Apple about a launch, major update, in-app event, or other noteworthy moment. A nomination is not a guarantee of featuring. Make the editorial case concrete: what changed, why customers will care now, which markets and platforms are ready, and which approved assets support the story.
A monthly operating rhythm
- Observe: review search terms, product-page views, conversion, cohorts, ratings, refunds, and support themes.
- Diagnose: choose the biggest credible mismatch between audience intent, page promise, and product experience.
- Design: decide whether the answer belongs in metadata, creative, a custom page, onboarding, or the product itself.
- Test: pre-register the hypothesis and guardrails where a valid platform experiment is possible.
- Record: preserve the result, context, limitations, decision, and next question.
